Community Energy Challenge - Goals

The Community Energy Challenge is helping make Western Washington a leader in energy efficiency! In the first 3 years of the program, the CEC has reached the following goals:

	Reducing Energy Use Over 250 local businesses have had energy assessments and made improvements Over 1,000 home energy assessments have been performed. Homes that do upgrades are saving 20% of their energy bills, on average.
	Boosting Economic Development In excess of $8.9 million dollars of direct spending has taken place due to the program, mostly in the construction sector. More than $1,000,000  in energy expenditures have been saved. This can be re-invested in the local community.  The CEC has created the equivalent of 47 full time jobs.
	Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions Prevent more than 7,000 tons of CO2 per year Equivalent to eliminating nearly 800,000 gallons of gasoline - that’s like 1 less tanker truck full of gasoline every 4 days.

Creating a Model That Works

The Community Energy Challenge represents a unique opportunity to realize the massive energy savings potential in the small commercial and residential sectors. By aggregating customers, we achieve the economies of scale needed to make numerous small weatherization project efforts cost effective from a conservation perspective and worthwhile from a business perspective. As the state and nation look to achieve significant climate and energy independence goals, successful proof of this concept is critical; and no where else is better poised to deliver.
