Community Energy Challenge - Goals

Over two years the Challenge can achieve the following impacts:

	Reduce Energy Use 150 local businesses saving (at least) 5-15% of their energy use. 1800 home energy assessments performed. 900 homes saving 5-30% of their energy use.
	Boost Economic Development Generate construction activities in excess of $10 Million.  Save more than $1,000,000  in energy expenditures that can be re-invested in the local community.  All while creating (at least) 35 new green collar jobs
	Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions Prevent more than 7,000 tons of CO2 per year Equivalent to eliminating nearly 800,000 gallons of gasoline - that’s like 1 less tanker truck full of gasoline every 4 days.

Creating a Model That Works

The Community Energy Challenge represents a unique opportunity to begin to realize the massive energy savings potential in the small commercial and residential sectors. By aggregating customers for loan products and contractors/installers, we will achieve the economies of scale needed to make numerous small weatherization project efforts cost effective from a conservation perspective and worthwhile from a business perspective. As the state and nation look to achieve significant climate and energy independence goals, successful proof of this concept is critical; and no where else is better poised to deliver.
