What are Complete Streets?
Complete Streets are streets for everyone. They are designed and operated to enable safe access for all users. Pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and public transportation users of all ages and abilities are able to safely move along and across a Complete Street.
Effective Complete Streets policies help communities routinely create safe and inviting road networks for everyone. Now, in communities across the country, a movement is growing to complete the streets. States, cities, and towns are asking their planners, engineers, and designers to build road networks that welcome all citizens.
Complete Streets play an important role in livable communities, where all people – regardless of age, ability or mode of transportation – feel safe and welcome on the roadways.
Walk & Workshop
Join us for a fun and informative evening with Peter Lagerwey, Senior Planner at Toole Design Group, one of the nation's leading planning and design firms specializing in multi-modal transportation.
Peter is a nationally known expert having worked on non-motorized projects and made presentations in over 200 states, counties and cities, and most recently was the project manager for developing and implementing the widely acclaimed Seattle Bicycle Master Plan. He brings extensive experience in the development and implementation of policies and programs related to bike lanes, sharrows, bicycle parking, marked crosswalks, school signing, curb ramps, sidewalks and trails!
We’ll get an overview of what are Complete Streets, the policy changes needed to get us there as a community, and a brief walking tour of some key intersections in Downtown Bellingham to see exactly what we’re talking about in action, including an explanation of how Bellingham could step it up to Complete the Street!
