Independents Week 2011
Whatcom County's 8th annual INDEPENDENTS WEEK is July 2nd-July 8th
When you choose to buy from one-of-a-kind, locally owned businesses you help keep our community a one-of-a-kind place too. And by supporting locally owned businesses, which in turn purchase from other local businesses, service providers and farms, it multiplies your financial impact and strengthens our local economy by keeping money in our community and creating jobs.
By supporting local, independent businesses in Whatcom County you are also supporting a healthier community by supporting stores and businesses that take extra steps to be environmentally friendly.
Many of the businesses in this on-line directory ensure the health of our community and economy by purchasing locally grown food from local farmers and food producers; conducting business from sustainably built store fronts and offices; recycling and composting their waste; commuting to work by bike, bus or walking and encouraging their employees to do the same; purchasing Green Power; consciously lessening their impact on the watershed; and now many are conserving energy through their participation in the Community Energy Challenge (Look for the booth at the Bellingham Farmers Market Saturday, July 2nd for more information on how to save energy and money at your home through the Community Energy Challenge too.)
Whatcom’s future is in our hands and together we are keeping our community and economy healthy and strong. So this Independent’s Week, exercise your freedom to choose and make an extra effort to shop at local, independently owned businesses.
