Do you have an extra cooler lying around? We’ll gladly take it off your hands!
We’re hard at work with our Food Recovery Program recovering surplus food from restaurants and delivering the food to community members experiencing food insecurity. But we need YOUR help!
We are in search of coolers that will allow us to keep the recovered food at safe temperatures as we transport it for donation. Various types and sizes of coolers would be of a huge benefit to our program and allow us to redirect needed funds elsewhere. Not to mention, utilizing coolers that are lightly used and / or in need of a home helps us keep our Toward Zero Waste mission going strong!
Don’t have an extra cooler but still want to help? Donate the amount needed for a cooler of your choice! Do this by going to sustainableconnections.org/donate, entering the amount for the cooler you want to purchase, and specifying “Please direct my gift to the following program or project: <cooler name> for Food Recovery.” See below for a list of example coolers!
Food recovery and donation services have been designated as essential services. Now is a critical moment to support food security and minimize food waste in our community.
Your safety is incredibly important, so please be mindful when coming to drop off and donate your cooler. We encourage you to add it to a shopping trip or errand that you already plan on taking. Please read the following before participating:
Identify if you are in a “high-risk group” and consider opting out of the cooler drive. This group includes: people above the age of 60, pregnant individuals, people with underlying health conditions, and people with weakened immune systems.
Please stay home if you are experiencing any of the following: shortness of breath, fever of 100.4 F or greater, a cough, a sore throat, new muscle aches, vomiting, diarrhea, or jaundice (symptoms of other illnesses that can be spread through food).
When you arrive:
If you plan to drive to us:
We ask that you stay in your car until it’s time to take your cooler out. The line of cars will start at our building and head North down Ellis Street towards Ohio Street.
Please store your coolers in the trunk / back of your car if possible so that we can practice social distancing while unloading.
When you’ve reached the front of the line, a Sustainable Connections staff member will unload your cooler from your car. They will be wearing a mask and rubber gloves.
If you plan to walk / bike to us:
There will be a designated cooler drop-off area for you at our building.
Please practice social distancing from other bicyclists / pedestrians and be patient if there is a line to drop off coolers.
We do not have hand sanitizer to share, so please only touch your cooler when dropping it off.
