BELLINGHAM, Wash. — 7.29.26 — Sustainable Connections is pleased to announce the selection of Andy Basabe as its new Executive Director, effective September 7, 2026.
Basabe brings significant nonprofit leadership experience in Whatcom and Skagit Counties. He founded Vamos Outdoors Project, a nonprofit serving Latine, Migrant, Multilingual, and Newcomer youth and families by expanding access to outdoor recreation and environmental education throughout Whatcom and Skagit counties.
“Andy brings the leadership, vision, and collaborative spirit needed to guide Sustainable Connections into its next chapter,” said Bruce Tabb, Chair of the Sustainable Connections Board of Directors. “His nonprofit leadership experience, commitment to community partnership, and ability to bring people together make him uniquely qualified to advance our mission. We are excited to welcome Andy and look forward to the impact he will have in strengthening our organization and the communities we serve.”
For more than two decades, Sustainable Connections has worked alongside our community to support a thriving regional economy rooted in sustainability and connection. Under Basabe’s leadership, the organization will continue to strengthen this foundation while pursuing future innovation and local impact. The organization remains committed to working with communities across Northwest Washington through its five core programs, helping make this place a vibrant place to live, work, and do business.

Sustainable Connections expresses its deep appreciation for the leadership of co-founder and former Executive Director Derek Long, whose 23 years of service helped shape the organization’s role as a trusted partner and catalyst for positive change. His leadership has provided a strong foundation for the organization’s next chapter.
