Bellingham, WA, March 5, 2024, Sustainable Connections is excited to announce the launch of Solarize Whatcom, a new solar energy program available through July 4th. This program supports Whatcom County residents who are curious about installing solar panels on their homes and businesses. Interested participants can reserve their free solar assessment at Solarizewhatcom.org.
Installing solar on a home or business can seem daunting: from perceived costs to complicated technical details to figuring out which installers to choose. Solarize Whatcom is a solar group purchasing program in partnership with Olympia Community Solar, which aims to demystify the process. Olympia Community Solar’s previous Solarize programs around Puget Sound have resulted in over 250 solar installations.
In preparation for launching Solarize Whatcom, Sustainable Connections and Olympia Community Solar held a competitive bidding process to secure solar installers. They vetted contractors for equipment quality, business practices, and negotiated special pricing. The solar installers they decided to partner with are Western Solar, Truly Electric & Solar, Northwest Electric & Solar, and Blossom Solar. By purchasing solar in bulk and partnering with these trusted installers, Solarize Whatcom makes solar installation simple, secure, and accessible.
Interested participants can sign up for a free solar site assessment at solarizewhatcom.org. A solar installer will provide a site assessment of the home or business and provide a detailed solar proposal at the campaign’s discounted group rate. If participants choose to move forward with installation, the solar installer will schedule a date for the solar installation.
With net metering, solar customers can benefit from reduced energy bills. Net metering is an agreement between a customer and their utility that allows the customer to earn utility bill credits for any extra energy that flows back into the electrical grid. Customers can offset their electrical bill with solar, except for their fixed monthly customer charge.
