Eat Local First
we live in a special place, and are committed to celebrating the bounty that is here! Yet, only 3% of the food we eat here in Whatcom County is actually grown or raised in Whatcom County.
Making a shift
to 10% of our food coming from local farms and producers would mean $50 million more circulating back into our local economy each year! What can you do to help? Eat local first! Buy from local producers at local grocery stores and farmers markets, and support restaurants that buy local too.
The Food & Farming Program is
working to help everyone from local restaurants to residents commit to purchasing locally. To us, local means food that is grown, raised, or produced in Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan and Island Counties. Not only will you taste the fresh difference, you will feel good about supporting local families, our community, and our farmland. Here's to creating strong community with every bite!
