Meet Cascade Cuts, the Plant Nursery You Need to Know About

Located just north of Bellingham, Cascade Cuts is a wholesale plant nursery that specializes in perennial and annual flowers, thriving food plants, and the warmth of their staff and owners. Bizu Getachew, owner and operator of Cascade Cuts, is passionate about giving people the opportunity to connect and heal through the natural environment, and she does this through selling a variety of ornamental flowers, food plants, and herbs.

Bizu took over the business from the previous owners in 2018 with a vision to expand their offerings from wholesale to include retail, as well. Of course, the Covid-19 pandemic came with an unexpected set of challenges, and Bizu notes that Cascade Cuts is still building the business back. As she explains, “It was a big challenge to survive after Covid, but we’re selling now. I’m interested in connecting with the community, to open up the retail and focus on herbs and vegetables, which have the nutrition factor. People here are interested in nature, and when they go back to nature, they see the benefits.”

Bizu has dedicated much of her life and career to serving others. Originally from Ethiopia, she and her husband came to the United States in 2004 and opened adult family homes. In Ethiopia, they were working with orphanages to help children in their community. Now, they’ve pivoted their focus towards sharing the healing power of nature with their community.

“Not everyone may have a garden, but I hope that [Cascade Cuts] can be a kind of community garden for the people here. I want everyone to understand and really enjoy plants,” Bizu shares. “We have to eat good food, we have to enjoy nature. We need the environment. We need clean air. You can’t replace it with AI.”

Cascade Cuts is a place where wholesale buyers and community members alike are able to learn more about all the incredible plants that grow in this region – and then take them home! Bizu is especially passionate about medicinal and culinary herbs, so folks will find Cascade Cuts stocked with a wide variety of herbs for gardening – and eating! Of course, you’ll also find flowers, vegetables, shrubs, and more.

Sustainable Connections is honored to have Cascade Cuts as a business member. Learn more about their plants & people here.
