Whatcom Food and Farm Finder 2009

What's in the Food and Farm Finder?

71 wildly diverse farms! It's not just food, and they aren't all farms. Over 100 products offered include compost, soap, and flowers in with the edibles, and a "farm" might actually be a boat, a ranch or a greenhouse. Farms are listed by categories for veggies, fruits and berries, dairy/eggs, and meat/seafood so you can easily find exactly what you're looking for.

63 local food businesses who have taken the Buy FRESH Pledge, committing to support local food & agriculture.

Restaurants & Cafes. 44 eateries, from fine-dining to casual fare, that are committed to serving fresh, local food.  (Remember to ask your server what's FRESH today!)

Caterers. Bring field-freshness right to your special events with catering from one of fifteen local catering companies.

Grocers. Visit one of four farmers markets for farm-direct flavor, or look for local products at many local grocers.  You can even get them delivered!

Local Food Processors. 38 businesses offer locally-made edibles from wine to wild salmon, chocolate to coffee, jam, cheese, tea and more.

Seasonality varies for four-season feasting--see page 4 for a guide to what's in season now.

Many ways to Buy FRESH, from U-pick to farmers markets to Community Supported Agriculture.

Events & Resources: Our community is packed with great events celebrating local food and agriculture, and great organizations working hard to protect, strengthen and promote our food & agriculture systems. See our events and resources pages to plan your calendar and get connected. The Food and Farm Finder also contains a plethora of reasons to be a locavore and a handy fold-out map so you can find your favorite farms and eateries with ease.
